However, tour operating remained her first love and so she jumped at the opportunity to join two friends in setting up a new tour company in 2007, focusing on the Bush and Beach combination of South Africa and Mozambique. The ultimate dream of having her own company became reality with Kukummi Safaris. Together with her son, Rain, she is based in Phalaborwa and in between organizing your next holiday, can be found exploring Kruger National Park, enjoying the wonders of nature. Andrew Paterson
Andrew’s guiding career began at Sabi Sabi Game Reserve in 1983, followed by military service and further studies before embarking on a 15-year career in the world of finance. After many years based variously in Johannesburg, Brussels, Hong Kong and Singapore, he returned home at the end of 2005 in order to realign his life with his passion – the African wilderness. Whilst working in Money Markets and Corporate Finance, Andrew spent all his spare time guiding walking safaris in the Kruger Park, until he finally decided to quit the corporate world to set up Africa Walking Safaris, which has now been incorporated into Kukummi Safaris. He has also developed a great love and passion for the history and remnants of Bushmen culture in southern Africa, which has deeply influenced the name and ethos of Kukummi Safaris. Andrew alternates between his base in Johannesburg, from where he helps to market and run Kukummi Safaris, and guiding clients in the African bush whenever he gets the chance, thus enjoying the best of both worlds! |

Evelien was born and bred in The Netherlands. She studied tourism and marketing and worked for various travel agencies amongst which American Express in Amsterdam. The challenge and adventure of experiencing life abroad eventually got the better of her and she left The Netherlands in 1999. Intending to move to Australia, fate decided she should go to South Africa and she immediately fell in love with the country. While working in the hospitality industry she lived in various places such as Tzaneen and Cape Town but decided that the bush was the place she wanted to be. For seven years she successfully handled the sales and marketing for Sefapane Lodge in Phalaborwa, close to Kruger National Park.
